In this week’s episode, Lisa interviews Kira Onysko Jones. Kira is a certified personal trainer, size-inclusive fitness specialist, eating disorder awareness advocate, and holds a Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science. She got started in fitness during the days when skinny teas and body-building bikini competitors dominated social media. Because of that influence, she spent several years never feeling satisfied with her body, chasing the workout and eating habits of what she thought were “healthy” role models. As a result, she developed disordered eating habits and a terrible relationship with her body. She now dedicates her time to teaching people how to enjoy movement without letting it consume their lives, and how to fight back from the constant messaging online that tells us that our bodies aren’t good enough.
Having gone through the wedding planning process just last year, Kira shares her experience and why shedding for the wedding is just not it. Now don’t be fooled, this episode is for everyone, not just the bride-to-be! Kira and Lisa talk about the societal pressures that are placed on individuals right before big life events and how you can support your physical and mental health during these times.
